backwards compatibility means that it can play games from its previous generation, which is with the ps3 is a ps2, so when they say theres no backwards compatibility, it means that will NOT be able to play ps2 games. As far as with the limited backwards compatibility, i think they mean you can play some ps1 games on it, hope this helps

But it says limited compatibility because it will play most PS1 games properly. Some may have some issues playing. You can refer to this compatibility tool and click either model (since all PS3s use the same PS1 emulation).

It means that you won’t be able to use it the games you bought from ps2 or ps1.
It will play some Ps2 games, but not all.
They are not categorized and as far as I can tell are just random. If you want to know if any PS2 games will work on it, the only way to find out is put one in and see.
