It will happen. Nintendo has a history of releasing systems in multiple colors, and they even talked about doing so for the Wii before it launched.
However, they can’t really have a timetable for doing so yet. It would be bad business for them to release new colors while the current default white is still selling out as soon as it gets in stock. And there’s little reason to believe that situation will change until after New Year’s.
It’s a safe bet they will release new colors in Japan a few months before anywhere else. That’s normal for Nintendo as well.
I agree with everything MagicianTrent said. Also, ColorWare will do this to an existing Wii for $99. Expensive, but they do an excellent job.
Almost all gaming journalists predict that other colors will not come out until the original white version can be made at regular capacity (still in high demand and shortages). Reggie (President of Nintendo America) said that there will still be a supply problem through this holiday season, so no colors coming soon.
Once there is a steady supply of Wii’s in White, Nintendo will likely bring out other colors that upcoming holiday season, March, or Summer Lull.
